In this class, therapists will learn techniques for the muscles of the core: the diaphragm, psoas, illiacus, and quadratus lumborum. Learn proper techniques for working through the abdomen to address the structural muscles of the back. Myofascial release techniques will also be demonstrated that will enable the therapist to work painlessly through the deeper viscera. This class is a must for the clinical therapists or anyone wanting to improve upon their techniques that address low back issues or other structural distortions of the spine.

Energetic Hot Stone
Saturday & Sunday
August 8th and 9th
9:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Energetic Hot Stone Massage CE Course This continuing education course will train students on how to utilize hot stones to connect the body with the mind and the spirit. We will use age old techniques to create harmony throughout the body using placement stones, chakra balancing, rituals and smudging. We will be utilizing the energetic anatomy to enhance the overall effects of thermal therapy. We will also cover the basics (equipment, set-up, sanitation and how to harvest your own stones). If you have never had a hot stone massage class or if you have learned the basics this class will educate you on the energetic component of hot stone massage and integrate your skills to tune into the subtle energy fields of the body. This course is highly experiential and will offer hands on training into enhancing your intuition and benefit you as a therapist by eliminating undue stress on thumbs and wrists by allowing the stones to melt away tension.

Multiple-Client Training
Saturday & Sunday
08/15/2009 - 08/16/2009
9 AM - 6 PM

As many personal trainers are now using boot camps and group exercise classes to better market themselves and gain new clients, this course takes personal training skills from the one-on-one level to a group format. Through a workshop-type format, students will learn how to work effectively with a group with proper cuing, communication and exercises that translate well to a team format. By the end of the course, each student will lead the class through a demo class. The instructor will combine lecture, observation, hands-on work and class interaction.

The Curse of "Phantom Fat"

When people get in shape and drop pounds, they can see the number on the scale go down, but they can't always wrap their head around it. In fact, according to new research, some people who lose dramatic amounts of weight still think of themselves as being their former size, avoiding small chairs and other previously uncomfortable situations. This sensation is called "phantom fat" by researchers.

Women especially seem to suffer from this, say body-image experts, because many discover that despite their weight-loss, they still aren’t “perfect.” Too often successful weight-loss cases expect to look like a swimsuit model in a magazine, and are disappointed when that’s not the case, researchers say.
